BlogThis Peanut Looks Like a DuckAll hail the wonders of the Internet! Today I came across a great site called This Peanut Looks Like a Duck. It's a blog where people post photos of peanuts (and other things) that look like ducks. Some of the hits include This rust spot looks like a duck, This zucchini looks like a duck, This baby drool looks like a duck and recently This General Tso’s chicken looks like a duck. Enjoy. Steve Hormell Blogging from IndiaMy buddy Steve Hormell took a trip to India for work last week, spent the week in Hyderabad and went down to Goa over the weekend. He wrote about his trip and posted a bunch of pictures and videos to a blog called kindlydotheneedful. Postmodern City MapsAs a community planner, I'm fascinated with places. I love bustling historic neighborhoods and sparkling modern buildings alike. I also like looking at maps as abstract representations of these places. Our current mode of operation in culture is certainly postmodernism - a collision of different systems, different perspectives, and different points in time coming together to make something new. Mark shared some blog posts that highlighted two incredible postmodern places. The first is a burrito restaurant in Berlin that emulates the style of a taqueria in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Having experienced the authentic, no frills, but really tasty and filling burritos widely available in the Mission, and having eaten curry wurst at Octoberfest in Stuttgart, I could really appreciate this. When I go to Berlin, I want to try this place. Link to the post on Laughing Squid. The other postmodern place is a google map made real as an art installation. I don't think this place would be quite as fun to visit, but it makes me laugh to imagine it. I love the idea of a real place making you think of a database map place, and being funny to boot. Video: We Are The World Preformed by Celebrity Impersonators on a Japanese TV ShowThere really isn't much I can say that will enhance this video that I saw in a BoingBoing post today. Enjoy. Savory Tempeh and Chard RecipeThis dish was inspired by pretty rainbow swiss chard, and fresh herbs growing on our deck. It was so tasty, I wanted to make note of the recipe. Ingredients: Heat a generous amount of olive oil over medium heat in a large skillet. Add the tempeh, carrots, garlic, ginger, red pepper, basil, thyme, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir-fry for a couple of minutes. Add the wine and stir-fry for another couple of minutes. Add the swiss chard, stir, and cover. Steam for a couple of minutes, until chard is tender. Viola! Pretty, tasty, and good for you. Tasty Asparagus RecipeMy favorite cooking blog is Heidi Swanson's 101 Cookbooks. Tonight we tried the Tasty Asparagus recipe, and it was so, so good, plus nutritious, and easy to make. The recipe calls for brown rice, but we used whole grain orzo pasta, which tasted great, and is faster to cook. The tahini dressing is delicious, and the sauteeing and steaming is just right to bring out the flavor of the chickpeas and asparagus. The toasted almonds add a lovely crunch. The perfect recipe for wonderful spring asparagus! Video: Johnny Cash & Cypress Hill MashupI was starting to bum out because Gary Gygax passed away but then I saw a post with this video from Matt Jordan at You Ain't No Picasso and my spirits were considerably elevated. The two songs are Johnny Cash’s “Get Rhythm” and Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Membrane.” Pandora - Radio from the Music Genome ProjectI've recently started listened listening to Pandora. It's a service that generates internet radio stations that play music similar to any song or artist you request. Pandora uses complex algorithms to match music using very precise attributes that people have entered in as part of the Music Gemome Project. It's great for discovering new music. You visit my Pandora profile page and see constantly updated lists of what I'm listening with these widgets: WKRP ReduxA lot of people have sent us nice emails wishing us luck in our move back to Cincinnati but Scott Parker took the cake when he reworked the WKRP theme to fit my particular situation. Awesomeness. Hey there, if you've ever wondered, For those of you who are under 30 (or from outside North America) here's a large group rendition of the song led by Booty Collins to help you learn the tune. Mark Celsor Wins Second Place in Wired's Saddest-Cubicle ContestA few years back my old office in San Francisco flooded, everyone crowded into the second floor office, and I set up a make-shift desk with an old filing cabinet. A photo of these incredibly lame working conditions has earned me my 15-minutes of internet fame with second place in Wired's Saddest-Cubicle Contest. I was edged out by a guy who was surrounded by filing cabinets and jammed into the corner of a conference room, so I missed out on the fancy, $19, robot-shaped, web cam, grand prize.
